Islestone Stud is a family run stud owned by Will and Jessie, based in Northumberland, England. Founded a number of years ago with a foundation broodmare- Scarlett, whom we still have, the stud has grown on the solid principle of breeding only from the best. Using only approved stallions and mares who have proved themselves under saddle, or are descended from the best sports bloodlines, we consistently produce quality horses.
Originally owning just mares, we chose a selection of sires to best complement them, producing horses with superb dressage, eventing and jumping attributes. We now stand two of our own approved stallions, with a third being produced currently for presentation for grading in 2018 and continue to utilise outside sires also.
Our aim is to produce animals sound of body and mind. We believe in horses being allowed to be horses. All stallions have daily turnout and company. The broodmares, youngstock and riding horses run in mixed age herds so that Islestone youngsters are well rounded, respectful and mannerly animals.
Youngstock are all iGg tested at 24 hours of age. They are well handled, but allowed to be horses. Yearlings move on to the 25acre hill of mixed pasture containing varied grasses, herbage and wild flowers with huge established hedges for natural shelter and browse. The undulating pasture aids natural strengthening and conditioning of young bodies, setting them up for long and useful ridden careers.
All of our homebreds possess outstanding temperaments making the transition from youngster to riding horse with ease.
